Research: Magazine Analysis

The third magazine is “NUDE.” The cover is very simple. It only consists of the masthead and the model credit at the bottom. The main imagine of the cover is the model looking straight at the camera. The looks seductive but still quite natural.

The content page has a layout of two columns, with the title of the article on the left and then the page number on the right. It has a white background (so no image). It only has the name of the magazine in the middle, upper part of the magazine and the page number in the middle low part. The content page is linked with the picture on the left side of the spread, by a blue rectangle, that is why I choose to include it in here too.

The double spread sheet consists of only one picture of flowers on the left side, and a body titled “bare thoughts”. (headline). No Introductory paragraph. no nothing. Just an encouragement for us to share out thoughts on their site. This is on the lower right part of the page, close to the page number.

The second magazine that I am analyzing is named VULKAN, with the mashed having the same name. The cover is very simple, with barely any writing on it. It only has a dateline: october 2018 and volume 03. The model credit is in the lower middle part of the cover. It is very visibly written “VICTORIA LOKE”. The main imagine is an asian model making straight eye contact with the camera. She is surrounded by 6 flowers and is portrayed as being innocent and stylish.

The content page has the name of the magazine (VULKAN) on the right side on the page, written on its side. The page numbers are written always with two decimals, (like 04), with the title of the article right under it. On the bottom of the page there is the page number, the magazine title on the left and the dateline in the middle. The page has a white background with minimalistic fonts.

The double spread sheet is also quite minimalistic, with a picture of the model on the whole left part. It has the name of the magazine on the left and the page number on the left. The dateline is still in the middle. The same elements are seen on the right side of the double spread, but the page number is on the left and the name of the magazine is on the right. Also the right page has credits for the model. photographer, stylist etc.. These are on a picture with a flower.

The first magazine that I am analyzing is “ESCAPISM”. The masthead is obviously “ESCAPISM”, put on the upper middle part of the cover. The selling line, right under it, is “the UK’s biggest travel magazine. The main imagine gives the audience a desire for travel, somewhere in the mountains. It has a barcode in the left upper part. On the opposite side, lower right we have the credits and on the upper side is the issue number,41. A “special” tag is right under the selling line. It says “cool hotels” which tells us what it is expected to be seen in the magazine.

The table of contents has four pictures gathered altogether. The big headline “CONTENTS” is put in the upper middle part of the page, and the issue is put above it. The contents are divided into categories used to identify each other. Every category names has a short subline. Right under that are the page numbers with the name of the article. There is also an advertising for a chance to win a paid holiday. The page number is 6, and next to the page number is the link to their website, with flashy yellow table.

The double spread sheet contains on the left side the big HEADLINE “JUST LANDED” and just under it it is written “what’s new in travel”. Here we do not have an introductory paragraph for the relatively short body text. We have just a “mini heading” or subhead for the three texts. For each text, there is a imagine, and the credits for it is small written on the right.

The right side of the sheet consist of a full page advertise about a sale on accessories for dogs. It has a code for a sale and a big “selling line” of a rhetorical question. The information about the site and other social medias are included.
